The owners of this property had lived on site for many years. The existing house was out of date, not adapted to the new usage and the size of the large family.
The family expressed the desire to connect as much as possible to the beautiful lake view that the previous dwelling barely acknowledge.
The beauty of the site and its surrounding landscape was really humbling and our team decided to make the proposed dwelling as discreet as possible.
We decided to burred the living spaces under a thick green usable roof. A court yard on the street side will allow light to get in at the back of the house. On the other side of the burred entry door, a vernacular volume pops out of the green carpet to signal the new building. It host a 2 car garage and provide privacy from the street.
The main living space is develloped along the south facade and a large deck. Separated by a protected outdoor dining/cooking area, the primary suite enjoy the same view and orientation.
Accessible from the deck, the roof is treated as suspended garden offering another view to the Lake.
When the garage volume is finishes with standing seams aluminum roof and light wood siding, the main house is composed of 4 masonry wall using the stones find on site during the excavation and the demolition.
